Esther Henley

Minnie Esther Henley was born August 22, 1910 in Ephrata, Washington to Jonathan and Minnie Watts. She passed from this life January 14, 2010 at the young age of "Ninety- Nine". Even as a child she remembered the travels with her family of two brothers, four sisters, mother and father. They moved from Washington State to California than to Oklahoma. There travels back then were done in covered wagons making for quite an adventure. The trip from California to Oklahoma took over three months. The family first located in Locust Grove, Oklahoma but shortly moved to Jay, Oklahoma. She met and fell in love with her husband of 61 years Paul Melvin Henley. Esther ran a mail route out of Jay, Oklahoma but gave up her career for a more important one of wife and homemaker. Paul and Esther were married in Springfield, Missouri August 4, 1932. With Paul's job they again traveled seeing a lot of our USA. Settling back in Oklahoma they farmed for many years out side of Tahlequah, Oklahoma on the Illinois River. They sold and moved back to Jay, Oklahoma to retire. After Paul's death in 1993 Esther settled in Grove, Oklahoma became an active member of the Grove Church of Christ and her community. Family and friends were very important to her always having a positive outlook and thinking of others first. Proceeded in Death by two Brothers: Russell Watts, and Bill Watts, four Sisters: Ruth Cooper, Elsie Gandy, Leona Wilkins, Anna Harp, and Husband Paul Henley. She has nieces and nephews and other relatives along with many friends who will greatly miss her. Services for Mrs. Henley were on Monday, January 18, 2010 at 2:00 PM at the Church of Christ in Grove with Mr. Doug Rainbolt and Mr. Kenny Robertson officiating. Interment followed at the Olympus Cemetery in Grove under the direction of the Ellis Family Funeral Home in Grove. Friends and family may send online condolences at www.ellisfuneralhome.com.
