Freeda Brower

April 17, 1917 — April 23, 2008

Freeda C. Brower of Grove, passed away on April 23, 2008, at Grove Hospital, after cancer surgery. She was preceded in death last year by her husband of sixty-one years, William L. Brower. The daughter of Ora S. and Vera H. Craig of Cainsville, Missouri, she fell ill with polio at age seven, walked on crutches during her adult life, but was able to work, travel, and drive a car with special equipment which her father invented specifically for her. She retired from a position with the Social Security Administration in the 1970s when her husband retired from work with Trans World Airlines at which time they moved to Grove. For many years they were involved with genealogy and founded that department in the Grove Public library. They published the Civil War diary of a relative which they found in their family genealogical research. She also loved to paint pictures of landscapes and birds of the Grove area before Post-Polio Syndrome further limited her physical abilities a number of years ago. She and her husband were members of the First Christian Church of Grove, and were members of the choir. She is survived by her son, Gary L. Brower, grand-daughter Sonya and John Sparks, and great grand-children Casey and Katie Loomis and step-grandchildren Jacklynn and Andie Sparks.
