Jo Burger

Jo Ann Burger, 83, of Jay, Oklahoma died at 8:30 p.m. Friday, May 8, 2009 at Grand Lake Villa in Grove, Oklahoma. Jo Ann had suffered from poor health for many years. Jo Ann was born December 10, 1925 in Phoenix, Arizona. The only child of Windom and Virgie Mae (Prather) Bell. She moved to Oklahoma City and then to Grove while still a young girl. She attended Grove High School where she was a cheerleader. On November 1, 1942, she married Bill D. Burger in Grove, Oklahoma. They were very active members of the First Christian Church of Grove. The two of them were instrumental in forming the Church Choir and were actively involved as long as their health allowed. Jo Ann also served as the church secretary two different times. Jo Ann also enjoyed sewing, quilting, flower gardening and flower arranging. Jo Ann is survived by her husband of 66 years, Bill Burger of Jay; two sons, Steve Burger and his wife Becky of Jay and Terry Burger and his wife Patty of Naches, WA; one daughter, Cindy Tauuneacie and her husband Dan of Jay; four grandchildren, Michelle Burger of Seattle, WA, Shari Burger, Jason Tauuneacie and Jimmy Tauuneacie all of Jay. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 12, 2009 at Ellis Family Funeral Home in Grove. The funeral will be at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 13, 2009 at First Christian Church in Grove with Dr. Wayne Shaw officiating. Burial will follow in Olympus Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Dan Tauuneacie, Jimmy Tauuneacie, Lewis Tauuneacie, Robert Johnson, Glenn Franklin and Mike Prather. Jason Tauuneacie and Johnny Stevenson will serve as Honorary Pallbearers.
