Mary Garner

Mary Ann Garner-Tanner of Grove, Oklahoma passed away on Tuesday, July 14, 2015 at Freeman Hospital in Joplin, Missouri after a long illness. Mary was born on March 4, 1951 in Jay, Oklahoma, she was the daughter of John and Betty (Morgan) Tanner. Mary married Melvin Garner on February 22, 1997. She loved spending time with family and friends. Mary enjoyed camping; cooking at the creek and looking for waterfalls with her husband. Mary especially loved spending time with her children and grandchildren. Mary is survived by her husband Melvin Garner of the home, three daughters; Janene (Jackson) Layne and her husband Shane of Jay, Oklahoma, Shelly Jackson and her partner Beth Wilson of Strang, Oklahoma, Tina Jackson and her boyfriend Darren Kern of Seneca, Missouri; two sons Leonard Jackson and his girlfriend Cheryl Hicks of Jay, Oklahoma and Daniel Jackson and his wife Julie of Grove, Oklahoma. Mary is also survived by one sister Brenda "Dub" Curtis Tanner and friend Terry Moore of Gravette, Arkansas; five brothers Leonard "Short" Tanner, Robert "Jug" Tanner and his wife Donna, Jerry Tanner and his wife Bonnie, Bobby "Jass" Tanner and his wife Teresa Tanner and Rick Tanner and his wife Ann all of Jay, Oklahoma, and one brother-in law David Jackson of Zena, Oklahoma. Mary was blessed with 15 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren and a whole host of nieces and nephews. Mary was preceded in death by her parents Betty and John Tanner, a brother Dockie Tanner and sister Roberta "Bert" Jackson. A visitation for family and friends will be held on Friday, July 17, 2015 from 5:00 PM to 7:00PM at Ellis Family Funeral Home. Services will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, July 18, 2015 at Butler Baptist Church with Reverend Chester Crittenden officiating. Graveside will be at O'Field Cemetery in Jay, Oklahoma. Casket bearers will be J.J. Gillman, John Tanner, Kevin Vides, Hayden Cunningham, Jessie Garner and Austin Garner, Terry Moore and Shane Layne, honorary casket bearer Allen Tanner.
