Melissa Strain

Melissa Marie Strain of Jay died on August 20, 2010, at Grove Integris Hospital. Melissa was diagnosed with throat cancer in late 2007 and endured a variety of painful treatments to combat the illness until the battle could no longer be won. She was supported by a large number of family and friends during her final days. Melissa was born December 29, 1960 in Tucson, AZ. She and her family lived in Paola, KS for a number of years before moving to Jay in 2007. She was extremely close to her family and in particular to her daughter Haley. She always worked with Haley to complete her homework assignments and enjoyed doing so. Another favorite thing was watching her daughter as a cheerleader for the Jay Bulldogs. Melissa loved to cook and can and could be found picking blackberries even in the final stages of her cancer. She loved gardening and mowing their large yard with the riding mower. She is survived by her husband Jerry and daughter Haley, 16, her mother Penny Brown of Muskogee, OK, father John Rigg and brother Bryan Rigg of Plano, TX. A celebration of life service will be held at 3:00 p.m., on Thursday, August 26, 2010 at the Assembly of God Church in Jay, Oklahoma.
