Neal Ford Farber, age 93, died on Thursday, May 07, 2009 at the Grand Lake Villa in Grove, Oklahoma. The son of Fred W. and Catherine Charlotta (Ford) Farber, Neal was born on April 19, 1916 in Sedgwick County, Mulvane, Kansas. Neal graduated from Mulvane Kansas high school and married Mary Irene VanSant on September 1, 1938 in Derby, Kansas. As a young man, Neal worked for the Santa Fe rail road. He was an operator for the Skelly oil refinery. Neal was a member of both the Elk Lodge and the Moose Lodge in El Dorado, Kansas. Neal enjoyed bowling, fishing on Grand Lake and wood carving. In his later years, Neal sketched landscapes and portraits of all the nursing home employees. Neal was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Mary Farber in 2006, two sisters Winifred Heersche and Anna Lou Labbe. He is survived by his two daughters Judith Hartshorn of Baldwin City, Kansas and Joan Dawson and her husband Douglas of Bella Vista Arkansas, five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Under the direction of Ellis Family Funeral Home, graveside services will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, May 20, 2009 at the El Paso Cemetery in Derby, Kansas which is located at 700 E Kay Street. Serving as casket bearers will be his grandchildren, Denise Landwehr, Deanna Mann, Douglas Dawson, Brock Hartshorn and Neal Hartshorn.
