Raymond Gregory

Raymond Gregory, resident of Grove, OK, passed away Thursday, April 26th at the age 84. Ray was born on August 9th, 1927 in Okmulgee, OK to Clifford Gregory and Lillian (White) Gregory. In his teen years he moved to Shawnee, OK where he graduated from Saint Gregory High School. After completion of high school, Ray served his country in the United States Navy. He then attended Colorado State University after he was honorably discharged and later transferred to the University of Missouri. Ray's long, distinguished career with Phillips Petroleum Company began in the home office in Bartlesville where he met his future bride, Joan Couch. The couple were married August 31st, 1957, Ray had a lifelong passion for the game of golf and excelled in the sport from a young age. In 1976, the Kansas City Star featured Ray in an article which documented his 14th hole in one and that was not his last ace. However, above all else, Ray was a dedicated family man. Survivors include Joan, his wife of 54 years; his son Byron Gregory of Honolulu Hawaii; his daughter Chris (Gregory) Warner and her husband Delvin of Conroe, Texas; and one grandson Austin Warner of Charleston, South Carolina. A private graveside service for Ray was held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, May 5th at the Hickory Grove Cemetery with Rev. Carl Kerkemeyer, celebrant. The arrangements were under the direction of the Ellis Funeral Home of Grove, OK.
