Robert Henry True, age 86 ½ , died November 1, 2008 at his residence in Grove, Oklahoma. Robert Henry True was born April 13, 1922 in Topeka, Kansas to Larkin Madison and Mary Margaret (Burnam) True. He spent his early years in Pottsville, Pennsylvania. Robert was a member of the Lutheran Church. Robert served in the Civilian Conservation Corps in New Mexico from 1938 until 1939. He was a member of the 53rd Infantry at Fort Ord., California, and later transferred to the 392nd Bomb Squadron., 30th Bomb group, 7th Air Corp. Robert served in World War II in the Asiatic-Pacific Theatre. He received the Soldiers Medal, Distinguished Flying Cross, Air Medal with four Oak Leaf Clusters, and The Purple Heart. During his military service, he was named "Yank of the Month" and at that time was one of the youngest Buck Sergeants in the United States. He was a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and a member of the American Legion Post #0178, Grove, OK. Robert was a member of the Grove Veterans Ritual Team for many years. Robert worked for Mountain Bell Telephone Company in Denver, Colorado as a Staff Technician and retired in 1979 with 35 years of service. He married Linda M. (Donahue) Lindner on October 3, 1985, in Lakewood Colorado. They moved to the Grove area in 1988. Robert is survived by his wife Linda True, one son Neil F. True of Prescott, Arizona, one daughter Peggy Ann Phillips of Conway Arkansas, a brother, Leo Clayton (Pete) True of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, six grandchildren, seven great-granddaughters, three great-grandsons, many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Robert Larkin (Pete) True of Englewood, Colorado, a sister, Helen May Strause of Pennsylvania, and a brother, George True of Linglestown, PA. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., on Friday, November 7, 2008 at the Ellis Family Funeral Home Chapel. Interment with military honors will be held at the Fayetteville National Cemetery in Fayetteville, Arkansas. Memorial donations in Roberts name can be made to the American Cancer Society.
