Russell Rickerson

December 19, 1923 — February 14, 2008

Russell "Dean" Rickerson, age 84, died Thursday, February 14, 2008 at Integris Grove General Hospital in Grove, Oklahoma. One of thirteen children, Dean was born on December 19, 1923 in rural Marion County, Kansas to Charles M. and Mamie (Mitchell) Rickerson. Russell proudly served as a Supply Sergeant of the 305th Infantry during World War II. He served in the Southern Philippines and Ryukyus, was awarded the Asiatic Pacific Service Medal, Philippine Liberation Ribbon with 1 Bronze Star, World War II Victory Medal and a Good Conduct Medal. Dean was a lifetime member of the VFW Post #4750 in Hermiston, Oregon and enjoyed fishing. Richard was self employed in the floor covering industry. Richard was preceded in death by his wife Thelma (Wing) Rickerson in 1992. Survivors include four children, three brothers, James L. Rickerson of Iola, Kansas, Robert Rickerson of Branson, Missouri, and Max Rickerson of Chanute, Kansas, seven sisters, Eunice Ellsworth and Doris Fouts both of Wichita, Kansas, Barbara Lench of Chanute, Kansas, Betty Reed of Towanda, Kansas, Pauline Pool of Osawatomie, Kansas and Mary Sue McAdams of Oklahoma. Dean was preceded in death by his parents, his wife and two brothers Ralph and Jean Rickerson. A Memorial service will be held at a later date in Iola, Kansas.
