Ruth Margaret Harvey Kirkpatrick passed away at Grand Lake Villas in Grove, OK on Sunday, September 6, 2015 at the age of 90. Ruth was born on April, 10, 1925 in OKC, OK, and was adopted almost immediately by Raymond and Myrtle Harvey. Ruth graduated at Central High School, in the class of 1943. She attended Tulsa University for two years, until she met and married John Kirkpatrick.At TU she was an active member of Kappa Delta Sorority. She married John Wallace Kirkpatrick on December 2, 1945 at the First Presbyterian Church in Tulsa, Oklahoma. She worked while he finished school, and began their lifelong involvement volunteering with various groups they believed in. She served in many capacities over the years with OWL, Tulsa Recreation Center for The Physically Limited, Amoco Wives, Red Hats, Cherry Reds at Grove General Hospital, and others. In 1957, they took lessons to square dance, and served faithfully in every club they joined. Buckaroos was the last club they joined. In 1960, they bought land and a cabin on Monkey Island. Several other couples they knew also bought places in the same neighborhood. In 1985, they built their dream home and retired there. Ruth loved boating, skiing, playing with grandkids, and being busy. Ruth and John helped found the Monkey Island Fire Department, serving in several ways. Ruth helped found the Monkey Island Fire Department's Women's Auxiliary. They will be missed by the community. She was preceded in death by her husband, John, twin brother, two sisters, and parents. Ruth is survived by one son, John L Kirkpatrick, and his wife Rosanna, of Slidell, LA, daughters Jean Ann Kirkpatrick, of Grove, Tamara Sutphin, and her husband, David, of Denver, CO; and Christy Reynolds of Owasso, OK; seven grandchildren: Jennifer McQuade and husband Scott, of Owasso, OK, Katherine Kirkpatrick, of Slidell, LA, Mary Kirkpatrick, Tulsa, Ok. Romina Newman and her husband Joe, of Thailand, Fabrizio Biancato, of Lima, Peru, Michael Sutphin, of Denver, CO, Ali Sutphin, of Denver, Co, and six great-grandchildren, and a host of family and friends. A memorial service will be held at Lake Center Baptist Church on Monkey Island, OK, on Monday, September 14, 2015 at 2 Pm. Arrangements are under Ellis Funeral Home, Grove, OK. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Monkey Island Fire Dept.
