Velma Stover

January 5, 1923 — November 21, 2016

Velma Ruth Stover, age 93, passed away November 21, 2016 in Grove, OK. Velma was born January 5, 1923 in Lindsay, Oklahoma to Theo and May Peterman. She was married to her husband Lonnie Ray Stover for almost 54 wonderful years and they lived together for 27 years in Grove. Velma was a loving, faithful and devoted woman and a member of the First Baptist Church in Grove, OK. Velma was preceded in death by her spouse, Lonnie Ray Stover; her parents; three brothers; one son, Richard Carl Stover; one granddaughter, Hayley Marie Stover; one grandson, Billy James Stover. She is survived by three sons, Lonnie Ray Stover, Jr., Midwest City, OK, Gerald Wayne Stover, Midwest City, OK, Billy Steve Stover, Eufaula, OK; 15 grandchildren; 29 great grandchildren and numerous family, friends and loved ones. Velma grew up in Lindsey. She at one time early on made a trip to New York and attended modeling school. Her return to Oklahoma a bit later led her to meeting Lonnie. He was an attendant at a gas station, and the rest they say, is history. History indeed, almost 54 years of it, she not only fell in love with Lonnie, she fell in love with four little boys, which led to an exciting and memorable life together. Many weekends were spent splashing in the water at Lake Texoma. She enjoyed watching the boys grow up and begin families of their own. Velma was very involved in community activities where ever they lived. A wonderful cook, she loved gardening, canning, cake decorating and quilting. She had many talents. She was a wonderful woman of God. She loved her Lord and Savior and shared that love with others every week. She was fortunate to get to celebrate this with many faithful friends at First Baptist Church. We are thankful for moments shared with her. She holds a special place in our hearts. "Rest now sweet Velma. You are home."
