Montrose, Colorado - Verna G. Painter, of Montrose, died on Saturday, Jan. 27, 2007, at her daughter�s home in Montrose at the age of 88. Verna was born on May 5, 1918, in Kansas City, Mo., where she spent her childhood. On Nov. 17, 1934, she was united in marriage with Robert L. Painter, her best friend and the love of her life, in Kansas City, Mo. Her husband, Robert, preceded her in death on Oct. 23, 1991, in Grove, Okla. Prior to her retirement, Verna was employed as a hospital operating room technician. In April of 2004, Verna moved to Montrose from Grove, Okla., where she made her home until the time of her death. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Grove, Okla., the Friendship Quilters of Western Colorado in Montrose and Grand Lake O The Cherokee�s Quilt Guild in Grove, Okla. Verna deeply loved and enjoyed her family. She also loved and enjoyed quilting. Her life made a difference in our lives and we will cherish our memories that remind us of how much it meant to have Verna here and how much her very presence touched and enriched our lives and the lives of others. Surviving family members who were so blessed to share Verna�s life include her son, Robert Leslie Painter and wife Janet, of Bartlesville, Okla. Her daughter, Sue and husband Jerry Peters, of Montrose, Colo.; one grandson, Robert Dale Painter and wife Irene, of Springfield, Mo.; one granddaughter, Sharon and husband Rick Hillier, of Montrose, Colo.; and one step-grandson, Michael Wayne Peters and wife Pam, of Wichita, Kan. In addition to her parents and her husband, Verna was also preceded in death by two brothers and four sisters. Visitation for family and friends is scheduled for Friday, Feb. 2, 2007 from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the Ellis Funeral Home Chapel at Grove, Okla. A funeral service to honor and celebrate Verna�s life will be officiated at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 3, 2007 at the First United Methodist Church in Grove, Okla. Private family interment will follow the service in the Olympus Cemetery at Grove, Okla. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: Hospice & Palliative Care of Western Colorado, In Memory of Verna Painter, P.O. Box 1804, Montrose, CO 81402. Local arrangements are being handled under the direction and care of the Crippin Funeral Home & Crematory, 802 E. Main St., in Montrose, (970) 249-2121. The Oklahoma arrangements are being handled under the direction of Ellis Funeral Home in Grove, Okla.
